At 75 miles from our Sibley Rd. shop, Cape work is planned as scheduled multi-day visits — coordinated inspections, coordinated installs, and coordinated close-outs. The trade-off is that every Cape project we take is scoped correctly for salt air from day one: stainless and marine-grade fasteners, salt-air-rated copper detailing, cedar shake sized for coastal wind uplift, and ice-and-water shield extended past code minimums. How Cape Cod service actually works
Because we're 75 miles from Waltham, we book Cape Cod projects on a scheduled basis rather than a same-day dispatch. The honest reality of a small, direct-managed shop:
- Scheduled visits, not same-day trucks. Cape inspections are batched into planned trips down the peninsula, not one-off drives.
- Project-based, not emergency-based. Most of our Cape work is planned re-roofs, cedar restorations, and full envelopes — not middle-of-the-night leak calls.
- Written scope, planned install window. After the on-site inspection, you get a written scope, a firm quote, and a scheduled install window.
- Same crew, same detail. The Cape gets the same GAF-certified, MA-licensed crew that works our inland towns — not a subcontracted local.
Why Cape roofs are different — and why detail matters
- Salt air attacks fasteners. Standard galvanized nails and un-coated aluminum flashings corrode fast within a few miles of the coast. Every Cape roof we install uses stainless steel or marine-grade fasteners throughout.
- Copper still patinas — but slower with the right coating. Bare copper on the Cape greens more slowly than inland (drier air, less rainfall), but salt exposure still degrades solder joints and thin gauges. We spec heavier copper and salt-air-rated coatings where the exposure warrants it.
- Cedar shake belongs here. Hand-split cedar is the Cape's signature material for good reason — it weathers to a natural silver-grey and holds up to coastal UV when installed with proper ventilation and copper valleys.
